300 or higher:

You are at a risk for developing a health problem. Take stock of your life. How can you get rid of some of the stress? Visit your counseling center if you need to talk to someone.

150-300:

You have a 50-50 chance of experiencing some health problems with your current amount of stress. Try some of the stress-reducing techniques described in the book.

below 150:

You have a 1-in-3 chance of developing a serious health problem. Focus on areas of your life that are high stress and see how you can modify the situation.

Here are some tips:

  • Watch for early signs of stress, such as stomach ache or compulsive overeating.
  • Avoid negative thinking.
  • Arm your body against stress by eating nutritionally and exercising regularly.
  • Practice a relaxation technique regularly (see Tip Progressive Muscular Relaxation ). Why not try it right now?
  • Turn to friends and relatives for support when you need it.
