 progressive muscular relaxation

This technique will make your body feel heavy and relaxed. Believe it or not, only 10 minutes can make you feel more comfortable and alert. Try this now and print out this sheet for later. Post it by your bed or computer. Try to do this exercise once a day.

1. Get comfortable and quiet. Sit down or lie in a comfortable setting where you won’t be disturbed. Close your eyes.

2. Become aware of your breath. Breathe slowly through your nose. Exhale slowly through your nose. Concentrate on the breath and nothing else. Leave your worries behind.

3. Clench and release muscles. Tense and relax each part of your body two or more times. Clench while inhaling. Release while exhaling.

4. Proceed through muscles or muscle groups. Tense and relax various muscle groups, from fist to face to stomach to toes. (A good progression is: Right fist, right biceps, Left fist, left biceps. Right shoulder, left shoulder. Neck, jaw, eyes, forehead, scalp. Chest, stomach, buttocks, genitals, down through each leg to the toes.)

Good. You should feel more relaxed now. Keep this feeling with you. Have a good rest of the day.
