Summer 2012 Assistant REU Mentor

The Lyman Briggs College at Michigan State University hosted a summer Research Experience for Undergraduates funded by the National Science Foundation and the National Security Agency. One of the four projects was mentored by Igor Nazarov, focusing on Random Walks on Spheres and Harmonic Functions. I was assistant mentor for the project. The undergraduate students working on the project were: Harini Chandramouli (University of Pittsburgh), Kiya Holmes (Medgar Evers College), Brandon Reeves (Gonzaga University), and Nora Stack (St. Mary's College of Maryland).

The students worked on the project for eight weeks and were able to obtain new results. Additionally, the students presented their results at the Summer Undergraduate Michigan Mathematics Research (SUMMR) Conference at Michigan State University on July 23, 2012 and at MathFest in Madison, Wisconsin on August 3, 2012. The group won an "Outstanding Presentation Award" (click here for a photo) for their presentation at MathFest.
