Basic Rubik cube puzzles
Rubik cube puzzles with essentially pictures on each face.
These typically require the correct oreientation of the center
piece on each face of the cube.
Similar to the picture cubes these are often associated with
a product, brand, company, or event.
Again, similar to the previous two categories these often involve
a pattern that must be aligned. Some have faces involving letters,
numbers (like Soduku), or other symbols like arrows or playing cards.
Several are custom made cubes using various sticker changes.
Promo cubes specifically connected to a college or professional
sports team.
These are cubes that cannot be mixed up using the normal movements.
They have names like "Ultimate cube", "Idiot's Cube", "Stupid Cube",
and "Polish Cube". One is called the "Aggie's cube" and was evidently
sold in their competitor's bookstore. The two checkerboard puzzles are
custom made by me, and the middle puzzle in the bottom row is a fully
working puzzle in brass.
3x3x3 cubes but smaller. Most are keychain cubes. Some involve pictures
or patterns.
Various 2x2x2 cubes, some with pictures.
These are typically 2x2x2 cubes in the shape of a head, person, or object.
Various 4x4x4 cubes. The unopened versions have the rotation issue of
picture or promo 3x3x3 cubes
Various 5x5x5 cubes.
A couple of v-cubes, a 6x6x6 and a 7x7x7.
Various pyramid cubes. A couple Pyraminx along with numerous copies.
Square 1 cubes, Cube 21, and a couple picture versions.
These are hexagonal at the two extremes. Sometimes called a space shuttle
cube, though none of mine have that label.
These are basically 3x3x3 cubes, but with different shapes.
Various Rubik's cubes as balls. Most are 3x3x3, though three of the balls
in the bottom row are 2x2x2. These often use common cicular objects, like
the world (top row) or various balls (baseball, soccer ball, golf ball).
Various skewb balls. Including an Olympic, 3 Lion King, and Meffert's Skewb.
An Impossiball.
Two custom made puzzles, a Starburst and Gem. The parts from two Pyramorphixes
can be used to create these two puzzles.
Three simple custom made puzzles based on a pyraminx. One is stellated, one is
truncated and one is simply a 1x1x1 left over pyramid.
A Platypus Supreme and a Platyous Ultimate. Both of these are signed by the
creator: Uwe Meffert.
Cubes where each layer has a different thickness. Creates interesting shapes
when mixed up. Also called a Mirror cube.
Domino cube. 2x3x3 cube with pips that look like dice or dominos.
I do not believe this is an original, it is a more recent copy.
A Dino cube. I belive this is a more recent copy, not an original.
Several 12 sided puzzles. Included are some knockoffs, a Megamix, a version
without centers, and a Gigaminx. All have a Dodecahedron shape, 12 sides.
An original octahedron puzzle.
A couple Rainbow cubes. The shape is an cubeoctahedron.
An original Dogic puzzle with box, along with a couple of more recent
versions. The overall shape is that of an icosahedron.
Alexander's Star puzzles.
Two of the simpliest variartions to make yourself. The small one is a
3x3x4 but the added layer is not functional so it behaves like a 3x3x3
The larger one is a 3x3x5, but again only functions as a 3x3x3.
Two cubes with holes. The left is effectively an edge only cube, while
the cube on the right has no centers.
Three varations with diagonal slices. The one on the left has slices
which are rotated 45 degrees. The middle puzzle is a case (or box)
cube. The puzzle on the right is a Windmill cube.
Three different puzzles with only one layer. A 2x2x1, a 3x3x1 and a
bump cube 3x3x1 version.
A cube in the shape of a house. Notice the white face shows that this
is more complicated than simply a 3x3x3 in the shape of a house.
A 2x3x3 puzzle in the shape of a disk or cylinder.
A collection of puck puzzles.
A column cube. This one is manufactured, but it is a fairly easy
puzzle to make from scratch.
An Axis cube
A cube where each face has the shape of an X. Designed by
Tony Fisher.
An interesting 3x3x3 puzzle using gears as part of the turning
mechanism which changes the dynamics of the movement.
A couple of puzzles of other shapes.
A Pillow cube
A variation on a 4x4x4 puzzle.
A 1x1x1 and a 1x1x2.
A couple of keyboard cubes. This is a simple variation to make,
just use an old keyboard for parts and glue them to the cubes.
As a side note, this enables the cube to be displayed standing
on a corner.
A couple of 3x3x3 cubes with added cubes to make them star-like.
Another simple modification to make.
Two modifications that can be made from several Square-1 puzzles.
A Dodecahedron Prism and a Star Prism.
One of my all time favorate modifications. This is "Dot the i's".
Fairly simple to construct, fuse the two lower layers, then
resticker. Movements are limited because of different size cubes.
Another modification that looks like a cube in a cube.
A Siameses Rubik's cube, joined at one cube.
Some trivial modifications that can be made with a cube and ball
each of the same size. The top two are a sphere in a cube and a
cube in a sphere. The bottom two I call innie and outie, based on
belly buttons.
A couple of modificationns of 4x4x4 to get a 2x2x4 and a 3x3x2.
Some of the movements are not possible because of the different
size pieces.
