Mikhail Ostrograsky (1801 -1962)

Ukrainian mathematician considered to be a disciple of Euler and one of the leading mathematicians of Russia. He worked in the areas of calculus of variations, number theory, algebra, geometry, probability theory and mathematical physics. His name is attached to numerous results including: Ostrogradsky’s theorem, Green-Ostrogradshy equation, Horowitz-Ostrogradsky method, and Jacobi-Ostrogradsky coordinates.
