Bernoulli, Jacob (1654/6-1655)

Jacob Bernoulli, born in Basel Switerland, was one of several prominent mathematicians in the Bernoulli family. He is best known for his work in probability, where among other things he was the first to derive a version of the Law of large Numbers. He was a proponent of Gottfried Leibniz's Calculus and sided with Leibniz in the controversy on the discovery of Calculus between Leibniz and Issac Newton. He is also credited as the discoverer of the mathematical constant e.
