Lully, Raymond (1232 - 1315)

A Majorcan (Spainish) writer, philisopher, logician, apologist, and missionary. He is considered to be the first missionary to the Muslim world, he was martyered on his third trip. He created a devise, known as Ars Magna, that he felt would answer any objection to the Christian faith. His novel Blaquerna was not only the first novel written in a Western language, but along with his De Arte Eleccionis (Techniques of Election) these two documents had significant contributions to the theory of voting pre-dating other's contributions by over 500 years.
