Albrecht Durer (1471 - 1528)

A German painter who may be best known for his ambitious woodcuts. His Melencolia I featured numerous mathematical connections, including a 4x4 magic square, geometric tools, and a truncated rhombohedron. Probably his most significant connection to mathematics was his The Four Books on Measurement, published in 1525. This was the first mathematics book in German written for adults.
