Dedekind, Richard (1831-1916)

Dedekind was a German mathematician who worked in the area od abstract algebra and algebraic number theory. He developed a major redefintion of irrational numbers through his Dedekind cut where an irrational number is a boundary that separates two collections of rational numbers where every member of one set is strictly larger than the members of the other set.
