Condorcet, Marquis de (1743-1794)

Condorcet was a French mathematician, philosopher and poltitcal scientist. His first few works were on intergal calculus including Essai sur le calcul integral. He is better remembered for his work that related the fields of mathematics and political science in the area of group decisions. He showed that when there are three or more options that the majority preferences become intransitive, now known as Condocet's paradox. He also developed the Condorcet method that states that a winner of all possible candidate pairings should win the election. He was one of the first to apply mathematics to voting systems.
