Croatian mathematician and physicist best known for his atomic theory. His contributions to mathematics include applying mathematics to the telescope, the cycloid, the logistic curve and various problems of spherical trigonometry. Boscovich was the first to compute a planet's orbit based on only observations. He contributed to statistics by minimizing the sum of the absolute values of deviations, similar to the later idea of least squares.
