Stefan Banach (1892-1945)

Stefan Banach was a Polish mathematician who is considered to be one of the founders of the field of functional analysis. In 1932 he wrote Theorie des operations lineaires (Theory of Linear Operations) which was the first book on functional analysis. Several mathematical concepts are named after Banach, including Banach Spaces, Banach algebras, and numerous theorems.
