Al-Zarqali (1029 - 1087)

Abu Ishaq Ibrahim al-Zarqali was a Muslim astronomer and instrument maker. Al-Zarqali noted that for Mercury the path of the center was not circular but approximately oval, though he fell short of identifying it as an ellipse.
