At Exploration Station®, children can be a clerk in the new grocery store, climb inside the tower of a medieval castle, work in a kid's size emergency room, man an ambulance, create a flying machine, sit in the cockpit of a fighter jet behind the controls, connect pipes and elbows in Water Works, view the planets and star constellations, learn about fossils, create their own art project, dance on the floor keyboard like Tom Hanks in 'BIG", paint their faces and much more. Come and welcome our new feathered friends to the Exploration Station®.

The Park District maintains the Perry Farm Park, a dynamic 170 acre recreation area carefully carved in one of the most beautiful natural settings in the state.

Enthusiasts of all kinds find enjoyment in the wide array of activities the park offers including 4-miles of fully accessible paved paths that wind through natural prairie, woods and riverfront of the Perry Farm site. To preserve its natural setting, no motorized vehicles other than Park District maintenance equipment are allowed on the trails.

Oak meadows, a fruit tree orchard, picnic areas, memorial rose gardens and flower gardens and gazebos as well as an Illinois Nature preserve area highlighting Indian Caves along the Bourbonnais Creek and ravine make this stretch of the Kankakee River and its shores as beautiful as any in the state.

From Bourbonnais, take Highway 113 northwest for 5 miles and follow the signs to Kankakee River State Park.

Kankakee River, listed on the Federal Clean Streams Register, is key to this park's popularity. The park straddles the Kankakee River for 11 miles, covering 4,000 acres.

The park's trail system stretches for miles along both sides of the river. Hiking, biking and cross-country ski trails are on the river's north side. A three-mile route along Rock Creek leads hikers to limestone canyons and a frothy waterfall. A bicycle trail begins at the Davis Creek Area and travels 10.5 miles along the river and into the west end of the park.

On the south side of the river are equestrian and snowmobile trails.

A 12-mile equestrian trail in the wildlife management area is open seasonally. At the park's riding stables, there are guided horse rides, pony rides and cookouts can be arranged at the stables.

The visitor’s center has numerous exhibits and displays about the history, geology and wildlife of the park. A variety of guided hikes are offered seasonally.
