The Process
  1. Day 1-Today you will start learning about your physical health.  Physical health includes total care of your body through exercise, good hygiene, and nutrition.  First, let's find out how healthy you are.  Complete the Health Survey located in the folder. Just answer yes or no to each question.  Total up the number of yes answers for each category. When you are done, draw a picture of your triangle.  Did you have any sides longer than the others?  Write 3-5 sentences about your triangle. If you need help, look on the backside of your Health survey.  There are 2 examples, one balanced and one unbalanced.  There are also sentences about each triangle to help guide you.  In addition to the survey and triangle drawing, you will need to write down everything you eat starting from this morning and continue until tomorrow at breakfast.  Bring this to class tomorrow.

  1. Day 2-Internet Work.  Go into Food Pyramid and learn important facts on nutrition.  Print a copy of a word search about vitamins and complete.  Pick one, two or three.  With a partner, help each other count how many servings of each food you ate.  Using the graph paper located in the basket, fill out the number of servings of each food and color in the appropriate amount of squares. An example is located beside the basket. Write 5-10 sentences explaining how well you did eating the right amount of each food group and what you need to improve your eating habits.

  1. Day 3-Today you will study about the importance of mental health.  Mental health is your ability to like yourself and to accept yourself as who you are.  You need to go into Who I Am Collage and read and complete the activity.  You have 2 class days to complete this assignment.

  1. Day 4-The last part of health, is your social health.  This is your ability to get along with the people around you. Read the following article on friends.  One paper,  answer the following questions: 1).  What do I like in a friend?  2).  What do I not like?  3).  Why do my friends like me?  4).  What is one thing I wish I could change about myself?  5).  What are the things I like to do with my friends?  6).  When we argue, how do we solve the problem?  Read Who's In The Bag and follow the directions as written.

  1. Day 5-Prepare and give a 5-8 minute presentation on yourself.  Cover the  following:  1).  Health Survey and triangle, 2).  Your eating habits, 3).  Show and discuss your collage, 4).  Discuss your paper on friends and 5).  Discuss the items you brought in.

Conclusion

As you can see, it is extremely important to take care of all three aspects or sides of your health triangle.  If you have a lop-sided triangle your health will suffer.  What other things can you do to improve your health?  Stay physically active, eat well, get enough sleep, and don't forget about the emotional and social you.  For extra credit, surf the web and find additional websites on your health.  Complete a project of your choosing or we can brainstorm together.
