In order to practice this skill, in this exercise you will practice freewriting. This exercise will take five minutes. You will write for the entire time, not correcting yourself as you go. You can write about anything. Look around the room where you are sitting. Does anything jump out at you that you could write about? Look out the window or look at a picture that you have of your best friend or a family member. When was that picture taken? You can write about that time.

So, take a big breath and begin to write; do not stop until five minutes are up.

Now look over what you wrote. Were you surprised by anything that came up? Could you polish this piece and make it shine as a work of writing?
