Remember the exercise in Chapter 6, Negative and Positive Thoughts where you used positive self-talk about reading? Well, here you will do the same thing with taking tests.

What kinds of negative thoughts do you have during tests? Pretend you are sitting in an examination room. Listen to what your inner voice (The Voice of Judgment) is saying and write down the thoughts below. Examples: "My mind is blank; I can’t remember anything!" or "I’m going to flunk and my life will be ruined!" or "Every one else is leaving early. They’re all smarter than me."

List your negative thoughts:

Now try to replace these negative thoughts with positive thoughts using positive self-talk. Write down your responses. Examples: "Breathe easy and you’ll start to remember things. If not, come back to the question" or "Even if you flunk, you’ll survive or "Leaving early doesn’t mean they’re smarter, maybe the reverse. Just focus on the test, not the students"
