rites of passage

arrow
A rite of passage involves physical or emotional changes in your life, changes in how others view you, new behaviors you take on, and new responsibilities. It is often accompanied by stress. Examples of a rite of passage include changing from a child to an adolescent, getting married, earning your first paycheck, or the death of a loved one. Of course, going to college is also a big rite of passage.

In the following box, list three rites of passage you have experienced:

What emotions accompanied each rite of passage--anger, avoidance, happiness, or feelings of fight-or-flight?

Describe the rite-of-passage going to college. Were you excited, terrified? Maybe both. What did your parents or a friend do to help you out? In your response, detail one event--perhaps buying a new computer or saying good-bye to a girlfriend/boyfriend in the airport–that signified the rite of passage.
