The department of Family and Consumer Sciences offers several majors. These include Dietetics, Fashion Merchandising, Housing and Environmental Design (Interior Design), Family and Consumer Sciences, Child Development, and Teaching Family and Consumer Sciences. Each area of specialization prepares graduates to pursue professional careers in Family and Consumer Sciences in such fields as education, business, extension services, research, communications, social welfare, public health, international service, and careers in a variety of other agencies, organizations and institutions.

Family and Consumer Sciences is the field of knowledge and service focusing on families as they function in various forms. Family and Consumer Sciences integrates knowledge from its own research and other areas such as the physical, biological and social sciences, and the arts, and applies this knowledge to the enrichment of the lives of individuals and families.
