Story: 20 -
What a concept! A fabulous "make a point" movie with a scary thought for anyone who relies on insurance. I should be clear that the premise of this movie is outstanding, the execution (mostly little cliches) is unfortunately not.
Acting: 29 -
Heroic acting all around. Denzel easily depicts the burden of any father willing to do anything to save his child. Washington, along with Duvall, Woods, Heche, and Liotta carry the show through the cliches to the very end.

It was almost painful to watch a great concept with great actors in a great setting get mired down with the obvious tired old "irony" pitfalls. I won't elaborate too much, lets just say you can see stuff coming from 1537 miles away.
Impact: 8 -
In a word, Scary. What would you do if this happened to you? This movie is worth watching just for that point alone. Too bad the execution of the story dragged it down.
Modifiers: + 4 -
With such a great concept, it is sad to see this movie rate this low. But I have to give it some points just for addressing this issue.
